Stripe commits to 10 days for a card data migration once it holds valid data, and Twilio campaign vetting for business texting runs about 7 business days, sometimes into a third week. Those clocks run whether or not your unit list is ready. The range here is an estimate built from published lead times, not a quote.
What sets the pace of a self storage software migration
Four things run on somebody else's schedule.
- Card data. Stripe publishes a 10-day service level, timed from the moment it has everything valid. Adyen tells merchants to expect 10 days or more and charges nothing for the move.
- Business texting. Twilio brand registration often clears in minutes, occasionally 24 hours, and a manual secondary vetting review adds up to 7 days. Campaign vetting is about 7 business days, which Twilio warns can reach 10 business days or two to three weeks under load.
- DNS. Cloudflare says a record change takes effect globally within about 5 minutes, but a host that sets its TTL in hours or days makes the same change land that slowly. Lower the TTL before you need it.
- Search. Google says most pages on a small or medium site move within a few weeks, and it wants the redirects kept for at least a year.
Put those four in order and the calendar mostly writes itself.

Week 1: the paperwork nothing else waits for
Two emails decide the length of this project. Ask your current processor, in writing, for its data release terms, and ask the new vendor for the receiving processor's Attestation of Compliance or its Visa Global Registry listing, because Stripe will only hand card data to a PCI DSS Level 1 processor.
Start the A2P 10DLC brand registration in the same week. It usually clears quickly, and when it does not, you have found the bottleneck while there is still time to work around it.
Weeks 2 and 3: data and texting run in parallel
Request the card export now. The 10-day clock starts when the processor holds everything valid, so a missing field restarts your schedule rather than theirs. File the texting campaign at the same time, with the $15 verification fee Twilio charges per campaign.
Units, tenants and balances get imported in the same fortnight. Vendors price that work very differently: QuikStor publishes $999 for implementation, while Storeganise includes setup and two onboarding calls at no charge.
Week 4: the dry run
Import into the new system and check its reports against your old ones before anyone relies on the numbers. Braintree states it cannot migrate subscription or transaction information, and that limit is normal across processors, so autopay flags, lien stages and prepaid balances all need checking by hand.
Export your autopay list this week, while you still have an account on the old system.
Week 5: cutover, just after a billing run
Let the billing run clear first, so a full cycle passes before the next charge. Lower the DNS TTL a day or two ahead, put a real charge through the new processor before you close the old merchant account, then keep the old system open in read-only mode.
The gate needs a step of its own. Access control integrations are specific pairings, so codes have to resync from the new system: PTI lists StorLogix Cloud working with Yardi Breeze Premier, Storable Edge and Self Storage Manager, while OpenTech lists INSOMNIAC CIA with Hummingbird, Storeganise, 6Storage and QuikStor. Check yours appears on a published list before cutover weekend, then spot-check a handful of tenant codes at the keypad once the sync runs.
Week 6 and after: the tail
Parts of this keep running after you stop watching. Google's Change of Address tool forwards signals for 180 days. Visa Account Updater and Mastercard Automatic Billing Updater keep reissued cards working, if your account is registered for them. Let's Encrypt certificates renew on their own every 90 days.
What stretches it
- Sole proprietor texting registration, which Twilio says can take several weeks in its own queue.
- A processing agreement with no data release clause, which leaves you re-collecting cards by hand.
- Starting mid-lien-cycle, when notices are out and the dates are set by your state's statute rather than your calendar.
- A second location, which brings its own gate, tax rate and billing days.
